Services were held Thursday, July 21, at 10 am at the Greene County High School auditorium for Jefferson fire chief Randy Love, 56. Interment will be at the Carson municipal cemetery in Carson.
Slininger-Schroeder Funeral Home of Jefferson assisted the family.
Randy Lee Love was born April 12, 1960 in Council Bluffs to Kenneth Love and Donna [Gustin] Love Devilbiss. Randy was raised in Carson with his sister Jeannie and brother Kenny Vernon, along with cousins Micky, Stanley and Larry. Randy graduated from Carson-Macedonia High School in 1978. He went to Des Moines Area Community College, graduating in 1980.
Randy began working for Jefferson Telecom in 1980 and has worked there for 36 years. On August 4, 1984, Randy married Amy Wolterman. The couple had three daughters: Sara Mallinger (husband Josh), Jessie Love, and Abby Love. Randy was a member of the Jefferson Jaycees and B.P.O E. Lodge # 2306. He joined the Jefferson fire department in 1995 and became fire chief in 2009. He joined the Greene County Fair board in 2012.
Randy’s hobbies included NASCAR, motorcycles, the fire department, boating, and camping with family. He had many trades that he learned quickly and easily throughout the years such as electrical work, construction, and mechanical work.
Randy Love died July 17, 2016 in his home in Jefferson at the age of 56. He was preceded in death by his mother Donna and his brother Kenny.
Survivors include his three daughters: Sara (Josh) Mallinger of Des Moines, Jessie Love of Huntsville, AL, and Abby Love of Des Moines; father Kenneth Love of Carson; sister Margaret “Jeannie” Love of Atlantic; granddaughter Cadence Mallinger; and nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be given to the Jefferson Fire Department in memory of Randy Love. There is an account at Peoples Trust and Saving Bank in Jefferson, or memorials may be left at Slininger-Schroeder Funeral Home in Jefferson.
